Every year the cemeteries are full of plastic flowers that after about 7 days will be thrown into the trash by the city employees. This year go green and try using bedding plants, cut flowers, and potted plants.

Bedding Plants:
Some of these plants will come back year after year after planting. You can plant some plants at the headstone and then go back and get them to transplant into your own yard.

Cut Flowers:
Cut flowers are a good choice because they eventually breakdown into compost. If you don’t have a garden you can get them from you florist.

Potted Plants:
Potted plants can also be picked up from your florist which also has them in potted arrangements. After Memorial Day is over you can pick the potted plants up and put them on your patio or you can make arrangements to give them to a church or local nursing home. When thinking of a pot for your plant find a biodegradable pot.

Plastic Flowers
If you do go with plastic flowers remember to come back and pick them up so you can reuse them from year to year. The sad fact is that places like the dollar stores and wal-mart will be flooding the United States this holiday with plastic that leaches its cancer causing chemicals into our water table which is responsible for many endocrine diseases like hypothyroidism and diabetes.
As you sit here and read this article there are tons of plastic flowers being shipped from China to the U.S. ready to pollute the earth for a mere .99 cents each

If I kept just one person from buying a bunch of plastic flowers then I feel like this post was worth while.
