Here is another reason to recycle those plastic bottles. Mohawk’s makes a carpet fiber called everStrand using PET (polyethylene terephthalate) which is extruded from our recycled plastic bottles. They sort the bottles and then ground them into fine pieces. After they are cleaned they are melted down, extruded into fiber and then spun into carpet yarn. The bottle cap and label are also used to make carpet cores. These carpet cores can be used over and over again instead of being discarded like the cardboard cores would be. The plastic bottle now looks alot better on the floor in the form of carpet than in the landfill.
