You want to go green, but you don’t know how. Well, start with just turning off the lights. Lights that are on, but no one is in the room using the light is money going out of your wallet and wasting energy. I read that lights is about 12% of the home’s energy bills. So start going green by turning off the lights that are not needed than advance up. Make it a family rule the last one out of the room turns the lights off.

Teachers between now and the first of the New Year your class will be doing a lot of arts alnd crafts. This is a good time to use up all the newspapers you saved to make a paper mache something. Also when the children start cutting things out of the colored paper save the pieces to make a colorful collage or to glue around a plastic bottle, cardboard container or box. There is so many things to make so recycle, recycle and recycle some more to make great presents for the children’s parents.

Fall is here and it is a good time to fix the house so the heat will stay in before the really cold weather gets here. One way is to chalk around the windows and doors. Check around the plug in and light switches, you may be surprise how much energy can be lost in these areas. You need to go along the floor and ceilings to check for cracks and fill they. After this your home should be warmer.

I just fixed a pot of homemade chile and it was so good. The beef I raised my self and it is organic beef. The onions, tomatoes, peppers I grew and they also was organic. The tomato sauce I canned myself and I knew what was in the sauce.
I have a garden I am now in the process of canning Chile sauce from the veggies I have grown myself and they are organic veggies. I also pickled okra that was grown organic. I am storing up for the winter and my food I am putting up is organic food I grew myself. Anyone can do this even if you live in an apartment house. ( not the raiseing of a steer just veggies)
Yes, it is a little work but this winter when the snow is blowing and it is so cold out side I already have my organic supplies inside. Another plus, by doing the work of putting up your food now will help out when the prices goes up this winter on the veggies this winter.

So many people just have not gotten it yet. I have been so many places this summer and very few of the places of the places are recycling. The plastic bottles and milk cartons are still going into the trash. Plastic bags are being used to sack up products from the stores by the thousands. I have a bag I carry to the store to put the things I buy in that says “I use to be a plastic bottle. Now, that bag is so much prettier than the plastic bottles thrown along the road or sitting in a landfill. If your community does not have a recycling program started than someone please start one today.

Some children are very glad school is out and believe it or not others do like school being out for the summer.  Children get bored easy and they can get into trouble if their hands are not kept busy. 

Think of things they can do around the house that is fun.  Children like art and making things.  Instead of throwing away the newspapers help the children make a paper mache of the world,  Sponge Bob or what ever they can come up with.  Take empty pop can and make a wind chime.  You can even find scraps around the house and start making those Christmas ornaments for the Christmas tree early.  They can make items to put on the table at your 4th of July party.  Let the children plant their own garden. Children love to get their hands dirty.

Are you getting those little ants in your kitchen?  So many people are and they don’t know what to do.  You don’t what to use anything that can harm your family or your pets.  White vinegar will do the trick, anyhow it did for me.   Just take a spray bottle and fill it half with vinegar and half with water.  Spray your counter tops with the mixture.  You will want to do this each night because if the ants can smell any food or food crumbs on the counter top they will come back in to snack.

Are you planning a special event and need a catering service.  An event like a wedding, birthday or anniversary party.   If so, you will want to ask the catering service if they are eco-friendly.  If the company you work for is going to have a corporate lunch or dinner I hope they will use a eco- friendly catering service.  There are a lot of catering services out there that are really good but are they eco-friendly?

We are going green and we can not stop now.  There are some things you need to ask your caterer before you hire them.

1. Are they serving organic foods like organic vegetables?
2. How about the meat being served.  Whether the meat is beef, pork or poultry is it organic.  Is meat free of  hormones and antibiotics?
3. Are they using biodegradable and compostable products such as plates, cups, cutlery and food storage containers?
4. What about the dairy and eggs they use, are they from organic sources?

Having a party is a lot of fun but we want to be good for us, our guests and the environment to.  So before you sign,  ask are you a go green company?

At one time or another most of us will be going to a cook-out, traveling or camping out this summer.  We must remember that ECO Friendly is a way of life at home or away.  We must take the steps to protect our land.  If using reusable tablecloths, plates, cups and cutlery is out of the question then please buy and use the compostable paper products.  You can buy plates, cups, cutlery, and food storage containers that is made of biodegradable materials.   Now don’t forget the compostable toilet paper on those camping trips.

If you are cooking out at home use reusable tablecloths and napkins.
